Event type:
User group meeting

This month's Portland Drupal User Group will take place at Metal Toad (522 SW 5th Ave. Ste 400) from 6pm - 8pm. Pizza and beverages will be provided.

Show and Tell
Do you have a module to share or a Drupal tip? We'll have some time for show and tell after the main presentation.

This month's presentation
Alex Ellison will be presenting on common points of confusion for novice Drupal users and easy ways to mitigate this confusion.

Learning to navigate the default Drupal admin experience can be a huge a barrier to entry for content managers.

Developers and site-builders alike often work with clients or internal stakeholders who are not familiar with Drupal (at best) or completely non-technical (at worst). Regardless of technical experience, everyone has come to expect simple, elegant interfaces that rival industry juggernauts like Airbnb, Facebook, and Pinterest. Unfortunately, most organizations simply don't have budgets that can support such robust development.

Fortunately, Drupal gives us a great jumping-off point for designing CMSs that maximize bang for the buck. With a little polish, Drupal can deliver first-class content management UX.

Meetup Info

Users Helping Users and open Q&A

The general meetup begins at 7:00pm but the doors open a little earlier for Users Helping Users, which is a chance for members of the community to help and be helped by others with whatever questions and problems they're having with Drupal. Please note that while Users Helping Users is not designed to be a replacement for bonafide consulting from a Drupal professional that there are plenty of Drupal experts and professionals who attend our meetups and sometimes they need help, too!

Lightning talks

There may be time for lightning talks at this meetup.

Job announcements

At the beginning of each meetup LA Drupal provides an opportunity for local businesses to make job announcements and ask for referrals and recommendations.

Raffle! Prizes! Collect them all!

We love our sponsors and sometimes receive raffle prizes from our sponsors in the Los Angeles area and around the world. If you or your company would like to sponsor a raffle prize at the LA Drupal meetups, please come early or contact the LA Drupal managers.

Breakout Groups

As we've occasionally done, if there's time we'll split up into groups (sometimes called BoFs, or birds of a feather) and each group can jump into a particular topic that's set at the beginning of the meetup. The topics for these BoFs so far have ranged from high performance websites, Features-driven development, PCI compliance and general "getting started" discussions.

What to bring

Bring a co-worker, maybe your laptop or tablet, but definitely bring your business cards for networking. We do a lot of networking!

http://modulecharts.org shows Drupal projects' usage count ranked each week. Segmented by Drupal core version and module major version.

https://twitter.com/riaanburtronix/status/682446016843542529

Way, way back when Drupal 7 came out, for many months I felt that bit of angst that I'm missing out on a great new module. Something like CCK, but completely new for Drupal 7 and maybe making loads of the work I usually do when building sites a simple module install.

Module discovery can be a tough thing. Essentially, you just have to read a heck of a lot. That's not always a waste of time, but days have only 24 hours right.

Drupal does have a list of modules sorted by their usage statistics, so that does help a bit. But it doesn't show you the popularity of a module based on the Drupal core version, so there was no way in the early days of Drupal 7 to find a module popular only for Drupal 7, or that is rising fast.

You'd think that Zen is the top theme right? I usually build themes either from scratch or with Zen, but the top theme for Drupal 7 is actually Bootstrap 3... yup, you can now see which actual version of a project is most used.

Drupal 8?

There isn't that many sites out there using Drupal 8 yet. This will change fast in 2016, so these charts will be really handy to stay on top of things and find the next big thing in modules. Hope it helps you guys too!

We have a beautiful office in downtown Manhattan, and much of our team also works remotely. We have a generous vacation policy and offer flexible work hours.

If this sounds like a place you’d like to work, read on…

Summary

Senior Developers at Advomatic are responsible for building websites and applications for our clients, primarily in Drupal. The Sr. Developer will implement tasks from technical plans, and on some projects, a Sr. Developer will work as a project lead under the guidance of the Technical Manager.

You should have most of these qualities:

  • At least 4 years experience in web programming, including PHP and MySQL.
  • Experience creating consistent and accurate estimates.
  • Experience with collaborative development tools such as Git or Subversion.
  • Deep knowledge of the internal functionality of Drupal Core and Drupal’s top contributed modules (and willing to get your hands dirty with the less familiar parts).
  • Comfortable on the Linux command line and working with common web technologies (Apache, MySQL).
  • Strong self-management skills with the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable developing and debugging JavaScript.

It would be great if you had a few of these qualities, too:

  • An excellent sense of humor.
  • Experience performing migrations from legacy platforms to Drupal.
  • Experience with Varnish, Memcache, Symfony, or Solr.

I wanted to update d8 from 8.0.1 to 8.0.2, but i couldn't run the update.php due to the error "Access Denied". Am logged in as user1 which should have all required privileges.Following the drupal 8 update guide I deleted core and vendor folders with all the files in the drupal root from the the 8.0.1 install, and replaced the same files and folders from the newly downloaded 8.0.2 version.

What could be the solution to this problem?

My Environment:
OSX El Captain, nginx 1.8 using the latest config from https://www.nginx.com/resources/wiki/start/topics/recipes/drupal/, PHP 7.0.2

Florida Drupal Group vs Florida Drupal Users Group

Hi Everyone,

I would like to propose using Florida Drupal Group on our swag instead of Florida Drupal Users' Group.

The shorter name will help make it easier to create graphics and will also prevent the yearly discussion of the spelling (Users, Users', or User's).

What say you all?

テーマの変更で失敗しました。

以前も質問させていただいたdrupal初心者です。
テーマの変更の部分でつまづいてしまったのでどなたかご教授いただけませんでしょうか?

drupalナビで紹介されていた以下のテーマに変更しようと
https://www.drupal.org/project/tb_sirate

Hi folks,

Happy 2016! Hope you all had a nice Christmas and New Years. Sorry I couldn't make the last meet-up.

I've seen that the website has been updated to the new dates but other than that I've not seen any updates. I though I'd put a date out so we can get started on discussing the logistics for the next DCB. Hope you can make it and we can get this ball rolling again.

IT business management software

Does anyone have any suggestions for business management software that's specifically designed for running an IT services business?

Functionality should include integrated:
- CRM
- Project/contract administration
- Tickets
- Time tracking
- Management reporting
- Billing
- perhaps quoting, PM, sales

I'm thinking cloud-based products like Autotask but it would be interesting to hear what people out there are using.
