Note the new day and time!
Based on results of our recent survey, we are going to move our events to the third Tuesday of each month. Tuesday nights had a slightly higher availability ranking than Thursdays, so we'll give it a try. We hope this will allow more of you to attend our meetups.

Success! Rebuilding Biotech-Careers.org from Drupal 7 to Drupal 10
Community support for Drupal 7 ended on January 5, 2025. While some continue to support Drupal 7 sites, the Drupal #migrate Slack channel shows that many are actively rebuilding their sites in Drupal 10 (or 11). In addition to Digital World Biology’s business website (digitalworldbiology.com), the organization has two other sites—biotech-careers.org and innovatebio.org—that need to transition from Drupal 7 to Drupal 10. Biotech-Careers.org (BTC) is the first of these sites to complete its rebuild.
Todd Smith will present this work as a case study in rebuilding Drupal 7 sites in modern Drupal (10, 11, and beyond). BTC is a highly visited, content-rich educational resource for biotechnology careers. Google indexes over 12,000 pages of unique content from BTC. Many pieces of information are combined into numerous data displays to help visitors understand what biotechnology is, what it is like to work in the industry, what companies do, what jobs are available, what skills are needed to get those jobs, and where to find education to develop those skills.
A popular BTC feature is its employer database—a dynamic resource of over 9,500 companies and organizations, with locations and maps, organized by over 500 taxonomy terms. Smith will briefly cover the site’s content and the views used to create rich navigation experiences and improve search visibility. This introduction will be followed by a detailed tour of an ambitious site builder’s experience in getting started, migrating data, and theming with Twig. The tour will also address challenges that arose from replacing unsupported Drupal 7 modules, with a focus on replacing the Location module with the Address and Storage Entities modules.
