Notes from the first session of D8 Design Tennis at D4D Boston 2011:
Administration/UI/Functionality
- the right tabs should go away
- action items (like 'add content') should be prominent, under content page, global problem
- don't call Navigation "Navigation" (main menu vs. admin menu)
- basic setup instructions
- overlay should go away/be optional
- should the d7 toolbar be redesigned? I say yes!
- drop-downs on admin menu
- wireframe: permissions page
- menu bar w/ drop-downs (admin)
- menu page: I keep clicking 'edit menu' to edit but it resides under 'list links'
- save button at the top of admin pages as well as the bottom
- combine 'config' and 'report'
- better UI for configuration page
- custom shortcuts, not just existing menu items
- explain custom shortcut bar
- icon for dragging a 'page' to the custom shortcut bar
- more framework and application focus and tools
Module Admin
- better search for modules, through your website not d.o
- modules page: install, configure, find, ideally through one page
- wireframe: module page/update status (e.g. module_filter)
Content Admin
- live/actual 'preview' of content
- need for better UI for content types
- designer install profile
- interactive blocks drag and drop
Modern Web Standards
- mobile
- adaptive
- HTML5
- big, beautiful, adaptable typography
- color
- color
- better visual clues w/ color
Simple
- how to integrate contextual help on pages?
- better novice inline help
- prompt/walkthrough for first post
- need to orient new drupal users through the website
- icons
- make 'add content' more visible
Content/Context Aware
- no search (when there isn't any content) make less prominent
- search less important
