Hey,
I work for the Meyer Memorial Trust and we recently had a campaign asking Oregonians for ideas on how best to use a million bucks to serve Oregon. The response was so overwhelming that one of the most popular ideas became that we find a way not only to keep all these great ideas alive, but also that we find a way to help those ideas get realized. In other words this site is about community getting together and getting things done for the greater good, in any size and shape of project, for example anything from simple projects like a few cyclist volunteers getting together to clear glass off a bike path, to complex projects that get philanthropy, government and nonprofits together working towards a substantial common goal.
This led to a large all-volunteer effort with a very diverse group of local community members to design what this tool would look like, and the result was a community web portal designed to push ideas forward, with outreach to those without easy access to tech. Our trustees approved the plan and now we're looking to hire a technical director for this exciting project, with the current title being: Director of Online Community Building Project. This person will take charge, determine the software we'll use and make it all happen. This might be one of you or might be perfect for someone you came across in your travels. We have more details posted on our website.
This is a project that has the potential to have huge impact on the health and welfare of Oregon and because whatever solution we come up with will be open source, it will be completely sharable with other communities anywhere.
I'm half tempted to apply myself...
Best,
Grant
