Have you been following the discussion about the Chicago 2011 Overnight Website Challenge? It sounds very cool. They are following the example set by the Minneapolis Overnight Website Challenge and are similarly sponsored by the The Nerdery (I want one of these in Pittsburgh!). Not sure if we have to go through the Nerdery to make it happen (as the Chicago team is doing) or what benefits that may or may not include.
Anyway, I would love to pair us up with a local non-profit that has clearly defined goals and build them a website to meet their needs in 24 hours. Besides being fun and beneficial, it could be great press - and serve as execellent outreach - for our group. We'd want to make some key media announcements with a goal of making the front page of the Post Gazette Local section and some time on the nightly news broadcasts.
We'd probably want to create the team first and make at least one practice run for some pet project amongst ourselves so that we can get comfortable working with each other. Of course, the practice runs could be made over the course of several days or even weeks - their goal would be to better understand how to divide up tasks amongst ourselves and know that we have all the bases covered.
Enough said for an introductory post. What do you all think?
