I've been wanting to actually get a local Drupal developers group going for some time and this group has been sat here dormant for a long while waiting for me to get around to it.
Through other business activities and involvements, I am now in a position where I have a venue at my disposal and think it's about time we actually did something about this.
The venue is in Nottingham, we have wireless broadband, plenty of seating, a nice, ambient, relaxed atmosphere in which we won't be disturbed and can talk as loudly as we want. Tea and coffee is also freely available at a cost far lower than your average Starbucks or coffee house. I've attached a picture of the venue - Expand Business Centre in Nottingham. As you can see, it's a pretty nice spot.
I therefore propose that before the end of June this year we will have had our first East Midlands Drupal meetup and will have more scheduled in on as regular a basis as possible.
Of course, having a venue and scheduling a meetup is one thing, but obviously the group (and the meeting) has to have a purpose and be useful to all of us who attend.
So, with that in mind, I'd like to get this discussion going based on the three points below:
- What possible formats would you like to see? In other words, what would be great to actually do at the group?
- What subjects and areas would you like to see covered?
- How involved would you like to get in the running and admin and promotion of this group, both online here at Drupal Groups and offline at the actual meetups?
Let's get the ball rolling and I hope to meet as many of you as possible in Nottingham sometime in the next 3-4 months.
