Hey all,
I have talked to a few of you about this, but I want to put this out there officially. Here is a quick rundown of what I have in mind.
We in the New York community I feel have done a good job of getting people started with Drupal, through Intro to Drupal, Drupal Camps, Playdays, Happy Hours and Meetups. These are all great events and serve a really great purpose, I think that there is also another type of event that we could be hosting, a long form presentation that we can start to tackle "Best / Better" Practices, say an hour to an hour 40 mins for a presentation with a 20 min Question & Answer, that would be recorded to be released for those not in attendance to watch and learn from (I will discuss with the Drupal Dojo folks to see if they would like to associate these with the Dojo).
I think that this will do 2 things:
1.) Try to assist Drupal Community members move up the learning curve, and hear from professionals
2.) Shine a spotlight on the New York City community members, to show off their skills to the community at large.
There are a few people that have already agreed to do these lectures, I will pick on one of them here :)
Sam Tresler would be doing a lecture on everything from when http://mysite.com is typed and enter hit, that your site loads in the browser.
So I am very excited to try to get this off the ground, I need to find a location (I have thought about maybe the NewWorkCity or another Co-working location, or a College location would be great) that can house say 30-40 people, that has a projector / podium. Also someone that can record and edit them.
Hopefully this will spark conversation and we can make this happen. Please comment here and maybe we can add it to the Meetup schedule as a BoF :)
