After many years of service, Khalid M. Baheyeldin has decided to retire from leading the Waterloo Region Drupal Users Group. We would like to thank Khalid for his many years of service, and for keeping the group going for all these years. We hope he will continue to provide his expertise and opinions to the group as a member.
Myself (Megan McDermott), and Dave Hansen-Lange have volunteered to be the new group organizers. We have had some great discussions about the future of the group with some other regulars, as well as with some people who don't normally attend the meetups. We have also created a long list of topics for upcoming meetups that we hope you will be interested in.
If you don't normally come out to the meetups we would love to see you out at our next meetup on Thursday, September 20. In addition to a few short talks, we also plan to devote some time to ideas for improvements to the group meetings. We would love to have your feedback on what we could do to make the group more attractive to you.

Recently the Drupal Association discontinued the program that manages money for camps and communities. At first this seemed like bad news, however, it brought us to Open Collective. Open Collective now does the same thing the Drupal Association did for us except now the funds are more visible to the community and we have some great tools for more easily collecting donations. This month's meeting is canceled because DrupalCorn Camp is happening in two weeks, so a lot of us are preparing for that.

Our office is at the Janskerkhof 16 in Utrecht. There are several busses from Utrecht Central Station that stop at the Janskerkhof. From the bus stop, walk across the square past the church and you'll find number 16 to the right of café Hofman. We also have a very excellent "fietsenrek" right in front of the gate. Go through the gate onto the courtyard and ring the bell at the green door. Parking your car is possible, but the parking rates at the Janskerkhof are the highest of Utrecht.
DrupalCamp Pannonia is an annual Drupal event being held in the Pannonia region. The first iteration of this Drupal camp is going to be held in Palić, Serbia on November 2-3, 2018. Venue: Grand Terrace.
Our main goal with this year's DrupalCamp is to put the area of Pannonian region to the Drupal map and to create a hub for everyone in the Drupal world who’s interested in what this region has to offer. We are expecting more than hundred participants from Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Austria and other parts of Europe.

Neste fim de semana, durante a DrupalCamp São Paulo, pensamos num evento para reunir membros da comunidade das nossas regiões durante alguns dias para falarmos sobre Drupal, e quem sabe discutirmos os próximos passos de nossa comunidade.

Invitation to Drupal Summit Latin America 2018
Hello, I'd like to extend an invitation to everyone for a Drupal summit to bring together members of the Drupal community across Latin America.
This weekend, during DrupalCamp São Paulo, we came up with an event for members of the community across the continent to gather for a few days to talk about Drupal and who knows, even discuss the next steps for our community.
Right now we're considering the city of Florianópolis, in southern Brazil, which besides having a robust local community, is an incredible city which has natural beauty and is appealing for tourists.
It's an idea only in its infancy, but I'd like to gauge everyone's interest level so we can proceed with organizing the event.
The event will occur in the fourth quarter of 2018, between September and November.
Please offer your opinions, suggestions, and critiques.

Invitación a Drupal Summit Latinoamérica 2018
Hola a todos, nos gustaría hacer una invitación a todos a un Drupal Summit que reuna miembros de la comunidad Drupal de toda América Latina.
Este fin de semana, durante el DrupalCamp São Paulo, pensamos en un evento para reunir miembros de la comunidad de nuestra región durante algunos días para hablar sobre Drupal, y quien sabe, discutir sobre los próximos pasos de nuestra comunidad.
Inicialmente pensamos en la ciudad de Florianópolis, en el sur de Brasil, la cuál cuenta con una robusta comunidad local, además de ser una ciudad de increíbles bellezas naturales, siendo un gran atractivo turístico.
Ésta es sólo una ídea incipiente, pero nos gustaría saber el grado de interés de todos para así poder proseguir con la organización del evento.

This Saturday, BackdropCMS will be releasing version 1.11.0. I know that some folks in the local Drupal community are Backdrop curious.
I've blocked out a couple of hours on Saturday when I'll be helping with the release and/or working with David Radcliffe on a BackdropCMS contrib module that we maintain.
If anyone would like to drop by for an hour or two and help out with BackdropCMS and/or learn a little about BackdropCMS, please feel free to stop by. Recently, a security researcher reported some vulnerabilities to the Drupal Security Team. The Security Team and researcher worked together to understand the risks and decided that the potential impact was small enough that the reported problems could be fixed in public and that the researcher would write a blog post with their perspective on the situation.
Below are some quotes of the critical issues from the blog post and the Drupal Security Team’s analysis of the risks.
This is not ideal and should be corrected, but the impact is limited to only one page of the Drupal administrative interface. All other pages in the admin interface warn about failures correctly. Also, the Drupal Security Team publishes advisories in many ways (html, email, rss, Twitter, and this update mechanism), precisely because modern security awareness requires that administrators rely on multiple mechanisms.

The cross site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability allows an attacker to achieve two goals: To control the time that an update is triggered, which may provide value if they are able to sniff traffic or poison dns for a brief period. To use a large amount of resources from Drupal.org. As it is, there are millions of sites making multiple requests per day to Drupal.org, so an attacker would have to engage in a rather aggressive campaign to make any noticeable impact because the update service is cached and behind a CDN. The value to an attacker from straining resources on Drupal.org via this indirect method is not a strong motivation.

This is accurate and in the past few days we have been working to switch infrastructure and update processes to use secure channels. Furthermore, we’ve investigated and concluded the following download channels are or were affected.
Unencrypted file transfer makes it harder than it should be for users to ensure they obtained the intended files. DNS poisoning or man-in-the-middle attacks between Drupal.org and the person or program performing the download could result in a download of unverified code. Both of these would require a bad actor to be able to have control of the network at some point between your site and Drupal.org’s servers.
We have switched the most common download methods to use https by default and are working to add SSL to anonymous downloads via version control (git). The next step is to release an updated Drupal core.
While we are working to secure all remaining download channels, you can safely obtain code over SSL in the following ways:
